   This organisation was established  December  14, 1832 for administration of educational institutions in Kiev, Chernigov, Volyn and Podolia guberniya. It was the main institution, which worked on public education in Ukraine.  The administration was governed by the Ministry of Public Education. 
   In 1839 Poltava guberniya was added to the okrug, while it was singled out from Kharkiv educational okrug. In 1912 Kholmsk guberniya was added.
   The administration went into liquidation by directive of People’s Commissars of the USSR in 1919.

Council (1885-1917)
   Minutes of the Council meetings in Kiev educational district administration and pedagogical councils of educational institutions. 
   Rules for the opening of private educational institutions; correspondence on opening and closing of educational institutions; the statute project of the Kiev women' medical Institute (1909).
   Protocol of the meeting with the trustee of the Kiev educational district about the state of public education in the district and its development prospects (1911); the rules of examinations in secondary schools; correspondence on changing the curriculum in schools, the need for physical education of children, the prohibition of private teaching (at home) without the permission of the District (okrug) administration (1901), resolution female-doctors to participate in the meetings of district school boards (1900), the organization of excursions for teachers abroad (1912). Petitions rural societies on the demolition of school buildings due to lack of funds for their maintenance.
Correspondence on raising money for the construction of the monument to I. A. Krylov in St. Petersburg (1845), the strengthening of the Russian Navy (1904), institution of  hospital in Vinnitsa in memory of the 100th anniversary since the birth of N. I. Pirogov (1910), the participation of teachers from the district in the International educational exhibition "The organization and facilities of schools" (1913), in the Russian trade-industrial exhibition in Kiev (1913), in the work of the pedagogical Congress in Kiev (1916), in the Russian Congress of leaders for public education in St. Petersburg (1917); distribution of the loan issued by the Provisional government (1917);  work of the Commission for assistance to prisoners of war and disabled veterans (1917); school squads to farm (1917); evacuated and closed educational institutions of the district due to the World War I.

1st department  (1832-1918)
   Directives and copies of directives from the Ministry of Public Education and trustees of Vilna, Kazan, Kiev, Moscow and Kharkov educational districts. 
   Directives of the Ministry of Public Education and correspondence  on education of the Kiev educational district (1832), obedience of educational institutions of Poltava (1839) and Kholmsk (1912) provinces, the reorganization of schools in Kiev, Podol and Volyn provinces (1834), the opening of boarding schools in high schools, teacher training courses and paramedics courses , amending of statute and staff schedule of the Kiev University   (1838), education of  law faculty and the architectural office at  the Kiev University(1834), the reorganization of faculties, establishment of departments of Byzantine literature at the Kiev University   (1850), building art and architecture (1862) and courses of smallpox vaccination (1917);  permission for publishing "Educational notes" of the Kiev University (1845), the prohibition of philosophy teaching by secular professors at universities  (1850), abolishing of the post of adjunct at the Kyiv University  and its replacement by the post of assistant Professor (1859.) and organization  of  free public lectures at the Kiev University(1863.)
   Annual reviews of teaching in Vilna, Kazan, Kiev, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kharkov universities and at the Lyceum of knyaz Bezborodko in Nizhyn; minutes of meetings of the pedagogical councils of schools of the district; the rules of examinations of the state examination commissions of the Kiev University and investiture in degrees; reports of the Department of Russian language and literature at the Academy of Sciences. Estimates of expenditures by school district; information about the number of schools and progymnasium in the district and assignment on their content, correspondence on the construction of buildings for educational institutions.
